Lisa Shimkat: Leading Rural Economic Development

The eighth annual Iowa Rural Summit recently celebrated the achievements of six outstanding rural leaders, among them Lisa Shimkat of Fort Dodge. Shimkat's dedication to fostering economic growth in Iowa's rural communities earned her special recognition at the event.

Shimkat was honored with the prestigious Rand Fisher Rural Leadership Award, a testament to her remarkable contributions to rural economic development. Leadership in Economic Development

At the heart of Shimkat's recognition is her leadership of Iowa’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) network. As the director of this vital organization spanning 15 locations statewide, she provides invaluable business counseling and support to entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey, from inception to expansion. Her tireless efforts empower individuals to navigate the complexities of starting, operating, and scaling a business in rural Iowa.

In addition to her role at the SBDC, Shimkat serves on the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board, further amplifying her impact on statewide economic initiatives. Her dedication extends beyond state borders, as she fulfills her duties on the America’s Small Business Development Center National Association Board, where she currently serves as the acting chair.
