It's that time of year again - the Madness is back! March Mania 2023 has officially begun, and Lehigh Athletics is excitedly buzzing. The two-day giving campaign started at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, and will continue until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29. This annual event offers an incredible opportunity for Lehigh Alumni, families, and friends to showcase their unwavering passion for and support of Lehigh Athletics and their favorite Lehigh sports teams.
Philanthropy is vital in sustaining Lehigh Athletics' pursuit of excellence on and off the field. The generous support of alums, families, and friends is critical to ensuring that our sports teams can compete for championships and maintain a distinguished reputation year after year. With your help, we can provide essential resources such as hiring staff, covering travel expenses for competitions, purchasing equipment, and uniforms, and offering development activities that enable our student-athletes to grow stronger and succeed.
Lehigh Dean of Athletics Joe Sterrett '76 emphasizes the significance of the annual March Mania campaign, stating, "The competitions within the campaign are fun for our alumni and our staff, however, they will never obscure the importance of the results to the quality of the educational and competitive experiences we can provide our Lehigh athletes because of the resources generated."
This year, the competition among sports program alum groups returns, and the stakes are high. Alumni participation in giving during March Mania will determine the allocation of additional funds to the top five sports alum groups. Furthermore, the sports teams with the highest overall dollars and the most overall donors will also receive extra funds for their respective programs.
The prize money breakdown is as follows:
1st place (highest alum participation rate): $3,000
2nd place: $2,500
3rd place: $2,000
4th place: $1,500
5th place: $1,000
Sport with the most overall dollars: $1,000
Sport with the most overall donors: $1,000
Total Prize Money: $12,000
Several generous donors have also offered challenge gifts to support specific sports programs. Details about these additional challenges can be found on the MATCHES tab of the March Mania website.
To make a gift during March Mania, visit the website on March 28-29 and click on the sport(s) program(s) of your choice or The Dean's Fund for Athletics Excellence. Their secure online giving form allows you to make a one-time gift, recurring gift, or pledge/pledge payment using a VISA, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover credit card. Online giving is convenient and reduces processing costs for Lehigh Athletics.
