Tripura Chief Minister Inaugurates National Skill Training Institute (Women) with a Focus on Drone Technology

Tripura Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, announced on Tuesday the inauguration of the state’s first National Skill Training Institute (Women), emphasizing the government's commitment to empowering rural women through skill development, particularly in the operation of drones for agricultural purposes.

The inaugural ceremony, conducted in virtual mode, saw the presence of Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan. CM Saha highlighted the significance of training rural women to operate drones, especially for tasks such as spraying fertilizers in fields, contributing to technological advancements in agriculture.

The Chief Minister expressed the government's decision to introduce stone technology in the agriculture and agri-management sector, aiming to encourage the active participation of rural women in these fields.

The National Skill Training Institute (Women), located in 4.12 acres in Anandnagar, Agartala, is dedicated to providing vocational training to women. The goal is to equip them with the necessary skills for high-demand businesses, offering opportunities for both wage employment and self-employment.

Alongside drone technology, the government plans to introduce courses in Cosmetology, Dressmaking, and Secretarial practice in the English language under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS).

Prior to this initiative, the state government had already commenced vocational training programs such as Catering and Hospitality, Computer Software Application, and Office Management under the Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) since the last financial year.

The NSTI currently has 102 students enrolled and aims to admit an additional 200 students to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in various sectors.

CM Saha reiterated the government’s commitment to skill development and women empowerment, citing the Tripura State Policy for Empowerment of Women, 2022, as a strategic framework for gender equality and economic empowerment.
